Peer Support Services are designed to support adults with mental illness in their recovery through the use of mentorship. Peer support specialists are people who are living well in their own recovery from mental illness. Peer support specialists use their lived experience to walk alongside the member, providing support, and guidance.
Peer support specialists assist individuals in working on their desired goals. This is done through helping the individual develop coping skills, build support networks, and develop other needed life skills. Peer support specialists also assist the member by linking them with other support services that might be helpful.
Peer support is a Medicaid funded program administered by the MCO’s of Iowa. Regional funding may also be obtained through application. Private pay options are also available.
Peer Support Services are available in Lyon, Sioux, Plymouth, Osceola, O’Brien, Dickinson, Clay, Emmet, and Palo Alto counties in Iowa.
Services can be provided up to three hours per month, typically in home and community locations.

He smiled so wide, his whole
face changed.
James is 9 years old and lives in rural Kenya. He was born with a spinal condition that left him unable to walk. For years, his mother carried him everywhere. Last March, a Hope Haven International team fitted James with a KidChair specially designed for rough terrain. It cost $300 to build. It changed everything.
