Hope Haven's Day Habilitation program, known as My Day, is designed to enrich the lives of individuals through a variety of personal, social, and community activities. Our My Day program of supports helps individuals to enrich their lives and enjoy a full range of community engagement by providing opportunities for developing, enhancing, and maintaining competency in personal, social, and community activities.
The intention is that all individuals should have the opportunity to explore their potential, and achieve rewarding, successful lives in their communities.
My Day offers opportunities for individuals to explore and engage in meaningful and purposeful activities based on individual preferences. Opportunities are grounded in concepts like maximum time in the community, individual goals and preferences, and adult-appropriate activities, among others.
Chosen activities promote the full integration and inclusion of individuals into their communities through positive community contributions and relationship development.

Hope Haven's My Day supports individuals throughout Northwest Iowa and Southwest Minnesota. My Day is a cornerstone of that commitment, offering a holistic approach to personal growth and community involvement. We believe every individual, regardless of their disability, deserves the chance to live a life full of purpose.
The philosophy behind My Day extends far beyond simple supervision — it is about empowerment. We focus on developing practical life skills that foster independence and advocation for one's own needs. The curriculum is flexible and highly individualized, recognizing that each person has a unique set of abilities, interests, and goals.

Community Integration
We create opportunities for participants to become valued, contributing members of their communities — through structured volunteer work at places like food banks, animal shelters, and other local non-profits, involvement in local events, and meaningful relationships with non-disabled peers.

Health & Wellness
Daily activities promote physical fitness, healthy eating, and emotional well-being through visits to local parks, nature walks, games, cooking activities, and opportunities to learn about and explore healthy eating habits. Mental health support and behavior management are woven into the routine, giving individuals tools to manage stress, express emotions constructively, and build resilience.

Job Readiness
For individuals who desire employment, My Day activities help identify and build on each person’s skills, strengths, and interests through a variety of experiences. Groups may spend time volunteering with local nonprofits, researching businesses in their communities, attending Chamber coffees, and participating in learning activities focused on developing positive job skills.

Self-Advocacy
We teach individuals how to effectively communicate their needs, preferences, and rights — critical for taking control of their lives and participating fully in decisions that affect them. Workshops and group discussions cover understanding one's Individualized Service Plan (ISP), interacting with service providers, and navigating the social services system.
Our staff are highly trained professionals who are passionate about supporting individuals with disabilities. They receive continuous training in positive behavior support, crisis intervention, and person-centered planning, and our staff-to-individual ratio ensures each participant receives the personalized attention they need to thrive.
The success of My Day is measured by the progress and happiness of the individuals we serve. Our person-centered planning approach keeps each individual's goals and preferences at the center of the service design, with regular reviews to stay responsive to changing needs and aspirations.

He smiled so wide, his whole
face changed.
James is 9 years old and lives in rural Kenya. He was born with a spinal condition that left him unable to walk. For years, his mother carried him everywhere. Last March, a Hope Haven International team fitted James with a KidChair specially designed for rough terrain. It cost $300 to build. It changed everything.
