Jon’s Story

“Did you know I am a firefighter? I love to volunteer my time at the fire department! I am a hero!”

Since December 2019 after Jon graduated high school from Sibley-Ocheyedan he has been attending My Day services and in January 2022 Jon has been participating in the Pathway to Employment Track program at Hope Haven. This new track program is developed and implemented to help individuals advance their skills in their current job and to discover new job interests.

During his time in the track program Jon realized his dream job was to work for the fire department. After reaching out to Andy Gacke Ashton Fire Chief Jon’s dreams came true! Jon truly enjoys being part of the team takes full responsibly in keeping the fire department clean and of course loves to share his experience with others.

Jon is also an active community member and loves to give back through volunteering. He not only attends My Day four days a week but also has two community jobs at Pizza Ranch and a custodian at the high school fitness center.

“The Ashton Fire Department greatly appreciates Jon’s hard work at keeping the fire station clean! We love his great personality and his BIG smile on his face. He is a great addition and everyone enjoys having him on the team ” says Andy Gacke Ashton Fire Chief.
