Ways to Volunteer

There are many ways to get involved! Read about the options below and complete the Volunteer Form (click large button to the right).

Clerical: help package mailings and other office duties

Fundraising Events and Activities:  The Support Foundation holds several fundraising events throughout the year and has volunteer committees for each event.

Women’s Auxiliary: The Women’s Auxiliary is comprised of area women who want to support Hope Haven together. They meet twice a year for a luncheon, guest speaker, and silent auction. There is a $5 annual due for members.

Special Olympics: Participate through coaching, transporting, or volunteering the day of the event. This is a great way to be involved and have fun with the people we serve. Read the Special Olympics Handbook for 2011-2012 details.

Religious Services/Retreats: Hope Haven has annual retreats in the Midwest for people with disabilities. They also have a three week camp in Guatemala for people with disabilities who live there.  Volunteers are needed in planning and executing each retreat.

Wheelchair Refurbishing/Manufacturing: Work in one of the 9 regional wheelchair workshops to repair, clean, and build wheelchairs. The wheelchairs will be sent overseas to help those in need. Click here to see what towns have shops.

Wheelchair collection:  Attics and basements hold hidden treasures - wheelchairs and other medical equipment that is desperately needed around the world!  You can do a onetime collection drive in your area or volunteer to be a drop off location for others to bring their wheelchairs throughout the year. You can be located anywhere in the country to participate in this. Kits are available to assist you in organizing and publicizing a collection drive. Click here to see if there is a collection site in your area or visit www.hopehaveninternational.org for more information.

Truck Drivers are also needed to help transport the wheelchairs across the continent back to NW Iowa.

Wheelchair Distribution Trips:  If you are committed to proclaiming God's love to the poor in another culture, you are welcome to join an International wheelchair distribution team.  All are welcome.  HHIM teams also need doctors and nurses, physical and occupational therapists, wheelchair seating specialists, and language translators.  Volunteers pay their own expenses or raise support from home churches, family and friends while arrangements are coordinated by HHIM staff.  Click here for more information.
