Myth: Mental Health Issues don't affect me.

Fact:

  • 1 in 5 American adults experience a mental health issue
  • 1 in 10 young people experience a period of depression
  • 1 in 20 Americans live with a serious mental illness

Myth: There is nothing anyone can do to help a person with a mental illness.

Fact:
Only 38% of adults with a diagnosable mental health problem and less than 20% of children and adolescents receive needed treatment. Friends and family can be an important influence to help someone get the treatment and services they need.

Myth: There is no hope for people with mental health problems.

Fact:
Studies show that people with mental health problems get better and can recover completely. Recovery refers to the process in which people live, work, learn and participate fully in their communities. There are more treatments, services, and community support systems than ever before, and they work. Fully embracing the concept of wellness not only improve health in the mind, body and spirit, but also maximizes one's potenital to lead a full and productive life.
