The Hope Haven Foundation was established in 1989 with the purpose of ensuring the future for Hope Haven. 

The Foundation directly supports:

We offer a variety of opportunities for donors, including Planned Giving, Events, Online Donations and more. When you give to the Hope Haven Foundation, you are directly impacting the lives of the people we serve.

Foundation Staff


Mark Siemonsma
Director of Development

Mark joined the Hope Haven Foundation staff in October of 2004. He has a BA in Journalism from Northwestern College in Orange City, IA, and has completed courses in management from the Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh. Mark has completed his certification in professional development at the Lily School of Fund Raising through Indiana University in 2015. Mark has 30 years of experience in wholesale sales and retail management in the automotive industry. Mark's current duties include overseeing special events, donor relations and planned giving.

Mark has served as council president at Calvin Christian Reformed Church in LeMars, IA, president of the Rock Valley, IA Kiwanis Club, Auto Value National Advisory Board, is currently serving on the Iowa Leave A Legacy Board of Directors, and is active in Rotary in Sioux Falls, SD.

Mark, who grew up in Sheldon, IA, is married to Sue. She teaches elementary art at an area school. They have two children and three grandchildren.

Mark and Sue are currently members of Trinity Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley.  Mark and Sue live in Rock Valley and enjoy living and serving in their community. Mark loves to fish, faithfully supports the University of Iowa athletic programs (Go HAWKS!) and enjoys working their horses with his wife.  Joining the staff at Hope Haven fulfills a life long ambition to work for and serve the Lord with a Christian organization. Scott Koedam
Associate Director of Development

Scott Koedam

Scott joined the Hope Haven Foundation Staff in July 2007. Scott has a BS in Management from Embry Riddle. Scott's current duties include overseeing annual fundraising events, including the annual benefit auction as well as the golfing and fishing benefits. Scott enjoys the challenge of developing new and innovative events to benefit Hope Haven. 

Scott was raised on a farm near Rock Valley.  After attending Western Christian high school, he joined the US Air Force and served over 21 years on active duty.

Scott met and married his wife Stephanie while serving in the Air Force. She is from Belvidere, Illinois and they have two children.

Scott and Stephanie are currently members of 1st Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley.  They live on the family farm Scott grew up on near Rock Valley and enjoy country living. Scott enjoys working with the Foundation Team at Hope Haven and feels it is a call to serve the Lord. Marlowe Van Ginkel
Director of Church & Public Relations

Marlowe Van Ginkel

Marlowe Van Ginkel grew up in Rock Valley, IA and graduated with a BS degree in Psychology/Social Work for Dordt College in Sioux Center, IA. He also played baseball during his four years at Dordt. Following graduation, he immediately began full-time employment with Hope Haven as a Program Manager for adults with disabilities. Since 1986, he has been the Director of Church and Public Relations for Hope Haven. 

Marlowe's family includes his wife, Pam, who works as a registered nurse and is also the ER-Tramua Coordinator for the Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley. Marlowe and Pam have four married children, along with 13 grandchildren.

The Van Ginkels are active members of Trinity Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley. For the past 42 years, Marlowe has officiated high school and college baseball and football. Recently, Marlowe was named the "Top Active Official" in Region 4 which includes the states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin. During his free time, Marlowe loves to golf and travel the country with his wife.

Brooke Lowin

Brooke Lowin


Brooke joined the Hope Haven Foundation Staff in December of 2016. She grew up Sioux Falls, SD and graduated from South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. Her background includes experience in event planning, branding and social media stragegy.

In her free time, she enjoys traveling, attending family sporting events, baking, crafting and working on design projects.

Don Long
Planned Giving Consultant

Don Long


Don has been a licensed attorney since 1976.  After approximately 27 years in the private practice of law, he joined Barnabas Foundation, a faith-based, non-profit organization.  As a planned giving attorney, he provided guidance and assistance to Christians of all ages and generations to help them grow in their understanding of biblical stewardship and to experience the joy of living a generous life.  He retired from that organization in April of 2014.

Don holds a B.A. degree from Minnesota State University in Mankato and earned a Juris Doctorate at Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul, MN. He has served on several community boards including the Wayzata Community Foundation, the Greater Wayzata Chamber of Commerce and the Christian Legal Society of Minnesota. He has also been a volunteer for Twin Cities Christian Legal Aid and Prison Fellowship Ministries. He currently serves as a board member of Haiti Teen Challenge and Inner City Christian Ministries of Minneapolis.

Hope Haven Foundation recently retained Don as a Planned Giving Consultant to assist their donors with their estate planning needs.  He is available to personally meet with couples and individuals to discuss all aspects of estate planning, including the structuring of well-designed, tax-efficient wills which reflect one’s desire to honor God through true stewardship values.  Whatever one’s estate planning concern is, Don is available to assist them with structuring the most effective plan.  And, Don’s services are available at absolutely no cost to the donor.
